FARMINGTON, Conn. A green rubber duck wearing a blue “Return to The Farmington Libraries” ribbon comes with a small surprise: the libraries want to see it, then let you keep it.
The libraries launched their 50-duck Great Rubber Duck Hunt at noon Tuesday, September 1, for Library Card Sign-Up Month. Residents of all ages can participate. The ducks are hidden in public spaces throughout Farmington and Unionville, not on private property, according to the library announcement.
Finders are invited to bring a duck to either branch and show a staff member. For anyone finding one over Labor Day weekend, that visit will have to wait: both libraries are closed September 5 through September 7 and reopen Tuesday, September 8.
The instructions say to show the duck to staff and take a photo at a branch, after which it is yours to keep. The libraries also ask participants to tag @farmingtonlibraries on Facebook or Instagram.
The libraries say successful duck finders will be entered in a drawing for a Farmington Libraries swag bag. The drawing is limited to one duck per person. The winner will be drawn Thursday, October 1.

- Farmington Library: 6 Monteith Drive; Tuesday hours, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Barney Library: 71 Main Street; Tuesday hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
