About this beat

Schools, budgets, curriculum, and the decisions that shape how Farmington educates its children.

Farmington Public Schools consistently ranks among Connecticut's strongest districts, and that reputation is the product of decisions made at budget hearings, board meetings, and curriculum reviews that most residents never attend. The Farmington Mercury covers the school district as a public institution: its finances, its policies, its people, and when necessary, its failures.

What We Cover

Section	Focus
Board of Education	Meeting coverage, votes, policy changes, and budget approvals

Curriculum	Academic programs, testing results, DEI policy, and course offerings

Why It Matters

Education is the single largest line item in Farmington's municipal budget. It's also where the community's values show up most directly: in what gets taught, what gets funded, and who gets included.
