Farmington Traffic Committee: The Meeting That Will Change Everything (Or Maybe Just a Few Speed Limits)

Farmington, CT — Attention, citizens of Farmington! This Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chief’s Conference Room at 319 New Britain Avenue, Farmington, the Farmington Traffic Committee will convene for the year’s most eagerly anticipated municipal event. Clear your schedules because this is where the magic happens—or at least the speed limits get a little more magical.

New Business: Will Meadow Road Finally Get the Speed Limit Sign of Its Dreams?

First on the agenda is the riveting discussion regarding the request for a 30 mph speed limit sign around 12 Meadow Road. Yes, folks, it’s time to break out those calculators and figure out if driving 30 mph around Meadow Road is the key to unlocking a better future for our town. The tension is palpable as residents wonder: Will this be the sign that saves us all from mildly inconvenient speeding?

Old Business: The Greatest Hits Return

But don’t think this meeting is just about the new stuff. The Traffic Committee will also revisit some of its classic cases because nothing says “local government” like a good old-fashioned follow-up:

• South Road Speeding Saga (TRB #0624-02): The Police Department will present their findings on selective enforcement around 136 South Road. Spoiler alert: If you were speeding there in the past month, you might have been part of an important experiment. Your lead foot could help shape the future of speeding tickets in Farmington!
• Crosswalk Drama at Wendy’s (TRB #0524-01): The long-standing request for ADA-friendly truncated dome mats, painted crosswalks, and a concrete landing at the intersection near Wendy’s will be rehashed. Will the Engineering Department finally determine feasibility? Is this the budget-breaking crosswalk we’ve all been waiting for?
• The Audible Crosswalk Component (TRB #0424-01): Route 4/167 might just get a little noisier, but only if the DOT responds to the town’s heartfelt letter. Because nothing says “safety” like being loudly reminded you’re crossing the street.
• Pedestrian Roulette on Birdseye at South (TRB #0721-02): The town is still waiting to hear back from the State DOT on a crosswalk request. For those who enjoy the thrill of crossing Birdseye, the excitement continues.
• The Galleria Salon Curve Conundrum (TRB #0622-07): Near-miss accidents near 1305 Farmington Ave have become a local pastime. Will the re-design of the curve finally turn this stretch of road into something less terrifying? Only the State DOT knows, and they’re keeping us all in suspense.
