To navigate a fiscal shortfall, Hamden Public Schools faced the difficult decision of cutting sports programs at Hamden Middle School for the 2024-2025 academic year. However, Quinnipiac University has stepped in, providing a $30,000 donation to reinstate the sports programs, ensuring students can continue participating in extracurricular athletics.

The middle school sports programs were initially cut as part of the district’s budget reduction strategy. The financial strain threatened to deprive students of critical athletic opportunities for fostering teamwork, discipline, and physical health.

Quinnipiac University’s intervention alleviates immediate budget pressures and reinforces the commitment to community support and youth development. Superintendent Jody Ian Goeler expressed gratitude, emphasizing the positive impact on students’ educational experience.
