Farmington Board of Education

The Board of Education is nine elected members who appoint the superintendent of Farmington Public Schools. Everything we have reported on the Board of Education, newest first.

  1. Farmington Elementary Emergency Dismissals Move Earlier

On emergency early-dismissal days this school year, Farmington elementary students will go home closer to noon, about 90 minutes earlier than before. The district's letter near Nov. 1 is to carry the new times.

  2. Farmington Schools Have Their Fewest Students in a Decade

Farmington's public schools have fewer students than at any time in at least 10 years, and most of the drop since 2024 is in the elementary schools. The district is weighing what to do with the room.

  3. Farmington Plans One Polling Place for Spring Budget Vote

Farmington's registrars plan to hold the spring budget referendum at Town Hall only. The Town Council also passed a veterans' tax break and approved the school administrators' contract Oct. 13.

  4. Amy Borio Named Principal of East Farms Elementary

Borio has spent more than 30 years in public education, the district says, including four years as assistant principal at Pine Grove.

  5. Ryan Broderick Named Farmington High Principal

The survey will guide the Town Council's strategic plan and the zoning commission's next ten-year Plan of Conservation and Development.

  7. Farmington Schools Finish $248,435 Ahead, Return $100,000

Three budgeted kindergarten teachers were never needed, so Farmington Public Schools ended 2025-26 with $248,435 unspent. It let $100,000 lapse to the town and banked $148,435 in a reserve now at $457,646.15, which the finance chief says will let next year's request come in lower.

  8. Farmington Schools Will Measure Screen Time Before Cutting

Over 90 to 120 days, EdAdvance will survey parents, students and teachers, audit three weeks of network traffic and walk through up to 200 classrooms before the district decides how much screen time to cut. Some changes came first: K-4 Chromebooks no longer go home.

  9. Farmington Fines Its Bus Company $100 per Split Run

Farmington Public Schools invoked the penalty clause in its Specialty Transportation contract after a "highly disappointing" start to the year: $100 for every split or doubled bus run. Since the notice, there have been none, and the company has a new corporate parent.

  10. Farmington's Draft Town Survey: Here Is What It Asks

Farmington's draft town survey asks residents how high a priority it should be to increase tax dollars in 19 areas. A town committee reviews that half of the survey Wednesday, and the launch date is no longer on its agenda.

  11. Farmington Survey in October, Revaluation Tax Bills in July

Farmington's resident survey opens in early October and asks what people are willing to pay for. The first tax bills built on the town's new property assessments arrive nine months later. A resident asked the council in July to wait. Nobody answered him.

  12. Farmington's $14.3M School HVAC Bond and Its Electric Bill

Asked at the Annual Town Meeting for studies of indoor air temperature in the four schools, the superintendent said she had no data that evening.

  13. Farmington Sets April 30 Vote on $143M Budget, $18.3M Bonds

Town Meeting voters referred a 4.74% spending plan and two bond questions to the ballot. The average homeowner would pay $281.20 more in taxes. A state mandate and a historic debt load both sat in the room.
