FARMINGTON — The Farmington Police Department's arrest log for the long weekend runs to three pages and nine names, which in a town this size constitutes either a crime wave or a Saturday, depending on your disposition.
Everyone named here is presumed innocent. Most of them posted bond and went home.
Friday, 12:19 p.m., Brickyard Road. Officer Daniel R. Aparo arrested Jeffrey Payne, 36, of Hamden, on a charge of violating a protective order. Bond was set at $10,000 surety. He posted it and is due in court today.
Friday, 1 p.m., 319 New Britain Avenue. Which is to say, at the police station itself. Officer Richard E. Bianchi served Blanca Dayanara Pinero-rodriguez, 42, of Hartford, with a re-arrest warrant charging second-degree failure to appear. The charge is, in essence, not showing up. She showed up in the end, at the one address in town where showing up is least advantageous. Bond $1,000 cash, posted, court August 14.
Friday, 10 p.m., Plainville Avenue. Officer John A. Salute stopped Mark Anthony Maley, 27, of Avon, and charged him with operating under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane, the second charge being the usual evidence for the first. Bond $2,500. Posted. Court August 14.
Saturday, 12:28 a.m., Colt Highway at Pinnacle Road. Twenty-eight minutes into August, Officer Michael J. Smith arrested Kassondra M. Ross, 35, of West Hartford, on charges of operating under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast, failure to drive in the proper lane, and operating a motor vehicle while using a handheld phone. The charge sheet describes a woman doing two things at once, neither of them well. Bond $5,000 nonsurety, posted, court August 17.
Saturday, 2:47 a.m., Cambria Avenue. Officer Ryan A. DiFusco arrested Marcos Devonte Rodriguez, 27, of Farmington, on charges of disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. Bond was set at $5,000 cash. He posted it and is due in court today.
Saturday, 7:03 p.m., 500 South Road. The address is Westfarms mall, and at this point the address is practically a beat of its own. Officer Joseph G. Aiello arrested Edgard Joel Getchell, 28, of West Hartford, on a charge of fifth-degree larceny in connection with shoplifting. Fifth degree is not the smallest larceny Connecticut offers, but it is within sight of it. Bond $2,500 nonsurety, posted, court August 17.
Sunday, 1:21 a.m., Farmington Avenue at Greenbriar Drive. Officer Malik D. Brown arrested Jane Fung, 41, of Avon, charging her with operating under the influence, failure to drive upon the right, failure to drive in the proper lane, and failure to display lights. Three of the four charges concern where the car was. The fourth concerns whether anyone could see it coming. Bond $5,000 nonsurety, posted, court August 17.
Sunday, 3:06 a.m., Cooke Street. Officer Daniel J. Taylor arrested Nicholas Timothy Statchen, 20, of Farmington, on five counts: speeding above 60, failure to drive in the proper lane, operating an unregistered vehicle, operating under the influence, and the separate charge Connecticut reserves for drivers under 21, for whom the limit is .02 rather than .08. Statchen is 20. Bond $5,000 nonsurety, posted, court August 17.
Sunday, 8:41 a.m., Wethersfield. The weekend's largest number belonged to Steven Pedraza, 39, of Middletown, arrested by Officer Aaron M. Benham at the Wethersfield Police Department on a warrant charging third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny. Bond on the larceny was set at $50,000 surety. Bond on the conspiracy was set at nothing at all, the state having apparently concluded that the plotting was free and only the theft cost money. He was held. His court date is today.
Nine arrests over three days, four of them for driving under the influence. Two of the nine listed Farmington addresses. The rest arrived from Avon, West Hartford, Hartford, Hamden and Middletown, did whatever they are alleged to have done, and were released on bond to go home again, which is roughly what the roads are for.
