Farmington Police Log: Shoplifting Arrest at Westfarms Mall

A breach of peace count, not the larceny, carried the bond in the day's only arrest.

FARMINGTON — Farmington police arrested a Hartford man in connection with shoplifting at Westfarms Mall Tuesday night and charged him with sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree reckless endangerment. He posted bond.

It was the only arrest on the department's log for the 24 hours ending at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Tuesday, March 4

8:11 p.m., 500 South Road. Officer Nicholas G. Karangekis arrested Motown Marcello Beasley, 20, of Hartford, at Westfarms Mall, and charged him with larceny in the sixth degree, breach of peace in the second degree and reckless endangerment in the second degree. Bond was $5,000, nonsurety, on the breach of peace count, and none on the other two. A nonsurety bond is a written promise to appear with a dollar amount attached; no cash changes hands. The remarks read: "Arrested in connection with shoplifting. Posted bond." Court date March 12.

Under state law, sixth-degree larceny is theft of property or services worth $500 or less, a class C misdemeanor. The log does not say what he is accused of taking, or what led to the other two charges.

Jack Beckett has covered enough Westfarms entries on the Farmington arrest log to recognize 500 South Road at a glance. Recognizing the coffee maker before his first cup is harder. ☕

The Farmington Mercury types up the arrest log so you can find out what happened at the mall without asking around. We also cover town hall, zoning, the schools and the people who run them. The Farmington Mercury publishes the Farmington Police Department's daily arrest log as a matter of public record. All individuals named are presumed innocent unless and until convicted. Charges reflect allegations by police, not findings of a court.
