FARMINGTON — Farmington police arrested a Farmington man on Birch Street on New Year's Day in a domestic violence case and charged him with first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening. He was held on bond.

It was the only arrest on the department's logs for the 48 hours ending at 7 a.m. Thursday. The log for Tuesday into Wednesday was blank.

Wednesday, Jan. 1

1:28 p.m., Birch Street. Officer Malik D. Brown arrested Jared J. Garand, 35, of Farmington, and charged him with criminal mischief in the first degree, breach of peace in the second degree and threatening in the second degree. The log's remarks read: "Arrested in connection with Domestic Violence. Held on bond." The log lists a surety bond on the threatening count, with the amount shown as $0, and no bond type on the other two charges. Court date Jan. 2.

The log does not say what led to the arrest.

Jack Beckett has covered the Farmington arrest log through enough holidays to know the department does not take New Year's Day off. He was on his first coffee of the year by the time he finished this one. ☕

The Farmington Mercury rings in every year the same way: with the arrest log, typed up line by line, plus the town council, the zoning board and the school budget that follow it into January. Our motto is "Always last to breaking news," and we made it through another year without breaking it. Find us at farmingtonmercury.com and tell a neighbor. #WeAreFarmington 📰

The Farmington Mercury publishes the Farmington Police Department's daily arrest log as a matter of public record. All individuals named are presumed innocent unless and until convicted. Charges reflect allegations by police, not findings of a court.
