FARMINGTON — The Farmington Police Department's press arrest log came back Tuesday morning with seven records on it, after four consecutive blank pages.
The page covers 7 a.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Tuesday. Seven records, five people. Four of the five were charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and three of those four were arrested on Labor Day.
Two kinds of bond appear on the page. A surety bond has to be secured, usually through a bondsman. A nonsurety bond is a written promise to pay the amount only if the person fails to appear, which means no money changes hands at the station. Every record on this page is marked posted.
Saturday, 8:15 a.m. A 61-year-old Bristol man was arrested on Lovley Street and booked three separate times, by the same officer, at the same minute. The first file charges failure to appear in the second degree, $500 surety, with the remark "Re-arrest warrant." The second charges use of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, first offense, $2,500 surety. The third charges a different failure-to-appear statute, the one for pending charges, another $500 surety and another re-arrest warrant. Three incident numbers, two court dates, one stop. The log does not say why the three were filed separately, and the remarks columns add nothing beyond the two warrants.
Saturday, 8:34 p.m. A 36-year-old Newington man was stopped at Collinsville Road and River Road and charged with failure to drive in the proper lane, improper rear or marker lamps, and illegal operation under the influence. The impaired-driving charge is listed as nonsurety, with zero in the bond-amount column. Posted.
Monday, 1:02 a.m. A 47-year-old Hartford man was arrested at Main and Elm and charged with failure to drive in the proper lane, operating a motor vehicle without a license, operating under suspension, and illegal operation under the influence. Nonsurety, $2,500. Posted.
Monday, 2:18 a.m. A 33-year-old Plainville woman was arrested on Unionville Avenue and charged with illegal operation under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, interfering with an emergency call, disorderly conduct, assault in the third degree, and threatening in the second degree. Six charges, the longest list on the page, and the highest bond on it: $10,000, nonsurety. Posted.
Monday, 8:52 p.m. A 69-year-old Bristol woman was stopped at Farmington Avenue and Interstate 84 and charged with disobeying a traffic control signal and illegal operation under the influence. Nonsurety, $2,500. Posted.
The three surety bonds on the page all belong to the man arrested Saturday morning. Every impaired-driving bond is nonsurety.
The last arrest on the books before this page was Sunday, Aug. 30, also an impaired-driving charge. The four pages the department published between that arrest and this one were blank.
